The role of research and the researcher in city making
- Who writes and who decides the narrative for city making?
- Is there a role for critical thought /theory in urban planning education and practice?
- Do the skills of new urban research graduates meet community, government and industry expectations?
- What is the relationship of academic urban research and researchers to urban planning practice and practitioners? What could it be?
- What roles are there for urban researchers (academic and/or others) in urban planning practice in Australia and/or New Zealand?
- Is an academic entrepreneur a possibility? What does this role look like? Is this role desirable?
- How can academics and practitioners collaborate to create meaningful and useful research?

ABSTRACTS are due Friday 29 March [extended to Monday 15 April]. Download and use the provided abstract template. Submit abstracts via email to ANZAPS2019@gmail.com. In the abstract, address one of the sub themes listed above. Notifications of abstract acceptance will be sent by Friday 26 April. The book of abstracts will be published digitally on this site (with an assigned ISBN).
PAPERS The authors of selected abstracts will be invited to contribute full papers to a Special Issue of Australian Planner. The invitations will be sent by 15 July. Only the selected authors will be contacted.
PRESENTATIONS The conference format will include standard 20 minute presentations as well as 3 minute thesis presentations and an exploratory workshop. HDR students (PhD & MPhil) are strongly encouraged to submit for a 3 minute thesis presentation. Posters are encouraged, particularly posters that promote new urban research. Those planning 3 minute thesis presentations and poster presentations must also submit an abstract (see above).
